The first thing to do, if you still have it, is to read the label, since that way you will know the characteristics of the duvet and it will tell you what to do and what not to do.

Are all duvets the same?

Another point to take into account is what material the quilt is made of. There are two types of fillers; those that are made of synthetic fiber and those made of feathers.

How to wash the duvet filled with synthetic fibers?

To clean a duvet filled with synthetic fibers, the first thing you should check is that the duvet does not have any rips, because if it did, the filling could be damaged during washing.

Step 1:

Start by putting the duvet in the washing machine, normally a conventional washing machine has enough capacity to fit the duvet, but if yours is smaller, you can do this cleaning in a bathtub, or in a self-service laundry.

Step 2:

Once inside, choose the products to use to clean the duvet, add the detergent for delicate garments and it is important not to use fabric softener.

Step 3:

Select a short program, with a temperature of 60º Celsius and low revolutions so that the duvet filling does not cake during washing.

Step 4:

Once the washing machine is finished, take it out and shake the comforter well to get the fill evenly distributed throughout the duvet and hang it immediately.

We recommend that the day you do this work be a sunny day, since it will be important for it to dry quickly and evenly to prevent it from caking due to humidity.

How to wash the down comforter?

As in the cleaning of feather pillows , duvets need a series of special care for washing and maintenance.

Step 1:

Put the duvet in the washing machine, as we said before, first check that it does not suffer any unstitching.

Step 2:

Since feathers can clump together and create caking, put 3 tennis balls wrapped in a sock with a knot in the washing machine so they don't come out.

Why a sock? It is simple, so that our duvet does not fill with the yellow fluff that tennis balls usually release.

Step 3:

Put a program for delicate garments, wash with cold water and with low revolutions.

As in the previous case, use a detergent for delicate clothes and remember not to use fabric softeners.

Step 4:

Once the wash is finished, take out the quilt, this must be done horizontally, turning it every so often so that the feathers return to their place in the most uniform way possible.

So far our tips for you to clean your duvet at home, whether it's synthetic or feather filling. We hope that these tips will make cleaning your duvet not a difficult task, and remember that whenever you need it, you can also count on the cleaning services that we offer at Aecetia.
